About the Location
Historical Significance
Mary and Moses Green Park is named after Mary Green and her son Moses, who were Tempe's earliest known Black property owners. Mary Green settled near Phoenix after arriving in Arizona in 1868, and Moses, her second child, was born shortly after.
In 1888, Mary homesteaded 160 acres near the northwest corner of today's intersection of Rural and Warner Roads.
Park Features
The park spans 11.2 acres and is one of the largest neighborhood parks in Tempe. It has become one of the most popular parks in the city due to its vast open space and various recreational facilities.
