Waggoner Park
About Waggoner Park
A Neighborhood Space
Tucked between C.I. Waggoner Elementary and Kyrene Middle School in Tempe, Arizona, Waggoner Park offers 8 acres of refreshing green space for the community to enjoy. This park actually came to be through a clever land swap between the city and the Kyrene School District back in the late 1970s - talk about good neighbors!
The park bears the name of C. Ilo Waggoner, and for good reason. This dedicated educator gave 32 years of his life to the Kyrene School District, wearing many hats from teacher to principal and ultimately superintendent until 1972. During his tenure, he helped transform what was once a tiny rural school system into something much more substantial, overseeing the development of new facilities as the community grew.
The Heart of the Community
Today, Waggoner Park forms part of a 20-acre campus that includes the neighboring schools. It's a place where you can play, relax, or connect with neighbors.
The park's residential setting makes it convenient for a quick morning jog or an evening picnic if you live in the area.
What You'll Find
The park features a soccer field with full-size goal posts for both casual play and more competitive matches. There's also an on-site basketball court for those who prefer shooting hoops.
For families, the playground provides a space where kids can burn off energy while adults chat nearby. When hunger strikes, head to the picnic and grilling areas where you can enjoy a leisurely outdoor meal under the Arizona sky.
Getting here is hassle-free thanks to both a dedicated parking lot and available street parking options. Whether you're planning a quick visit or spending the afternoon, Waggoner Park provides a nice break from routine.
