About the Location

Expansive Desert Oasis

Located in Tucson, Arthur Pack Regional Park sprawls across a massive 1,000 acres of pure Arizona wonder. The park showcases the Sonoran Desert landscape, with lush desert plants blending with peaceful wetlands in an impressive natural setting.

The well-maintained grounds allow you to enjoy serene mornings with clear views of the desert landscape. Keep your eyes peeled and you might just spot some local residents - ground squirrels scurrying about, coyotes in the distance, or even a family of javelina making their way through the brush.

Trail Network

Feeling like stretching your legs? The park offers 4.7 miles of trails to explore. Regardless of whether you're hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, or out for a run, these paths offer gentle slopes that won't leave you gasping for breath.

These trails feel surprisingly secluded despite their proximity to the suburbs. If you're new to trail activities or use a hand cycle, you'll appreciate the beginner-friendly terrain. You might even cross paths with the Mountain View High School cross country team, who regularly train and compete here. Want more adventure? Just head across the street to the Maeveen Behan Desert Sanctuary for additional well-marked trails.

Sports Facilities

A significant portion of Arthur Pack is dedicated to athletic facilities. The baseball and softball fields are well-maintained and host Thornydale Little League games and tournaments throughout the season.

Beyond baseball, you'll find soccer fields and basketball courts that come alive in the evenings thanks to excellent lighting. The batting cages are a great feature too - just remember to book them ahead of time if you're planning to practice your swing.

Playground Areas

The park thoughtfully caters to kids of all ages with two distinct playground zones - a gentler area for the under-5 crowd and a more challenging setup for older children. With swings, climbing structures, and those always-popular spinny chairs, there's plenty to keep little ones entertained.

The shade sails covering the play areas provide important protection from Tucson's intense sun. Surrounding grassy spaces provide perfect spots for impromptu games of tag or catch when the playground equipment just isn't enough.

Dog Park

Four-legged friends haven't been forgotten at Arthur Pack. The well-maintained dog park wisely separates the big pups from the small ones, giving both space to play safely. While both areas feature grass, the large dog section tends to show its popularity with some worn patches.

The spacious layout is well-suited for dogs who need to sprint off some energy. Though water is occasionally available, it's always smart to bring your own supply to keep your furry friend hydrated during your visit.

Wildlife Sanctuary

Beyond recreation, Arthur Pack plays an important ecological role as a sanctuary for local wildlife. The park has become something of a hotspot for birdwatching enthusiasts, with its diverse bird population making it an ideal location for nature photography as well.

Taking a quiet moment to observe the native flora and fauna offers a peaceful contrast to the more active pursuits available across the park.

Visitor Amenities

For family outings, the park offers picnic areas with ramadas, grills, and tables located throughout the grounds. Each ramada typically shelters two tables, with additional standalone tables available for more casual seating.

You can find clean restrooms conveniently placed around the park, including near the playgrounds where they're most needed. Parking is plentiful with two separate lots - though be aware that the playground parking area can fill up quickly during peak times.

If you happen to visit during baseball season, the concession stand opens up, serving classic ballpark treats that won't break the bank.

Historical Significance

The park's namesake, Arthur Pack, was more than a successful businessman - he was passionate about nature conservation in Southern Arizona. Today, this expansive park continues Pack's vision of natural space preservation within urban settings.
