About Keeling Desert Park
Desert Oasis
Positioned on E. Glenn St. in Tucson, Arizona, Keeling Desert Park might be small (just 0.4 acres), but it packs a surprising punch as a mini retreat for the Keeling neighborhood. This pocket-sized urban park features Arizona's natural beauty with its desert landscape.
A simple walking path winds through native vegetation, giving you a chance to experience the desert ecosystem without venturing far from the city. It's like a miniature glimpse of the Sonoran Desert, right in the neighborhood.
Artistic Touches
What makes this park stand out are the public art installations scattered within the grounds. Various sculptures add unexpected pops of creativity amidst the desert setting.
The park made local headlines in 2021 when the popular "Lizard Cowboy" statue disappeared - apparently stolen - showing just how attached the community had become to these quirky art pieces. (Here's hoping the lizard cowboy found its way home!)
ADTubac's Heritage Walking Tour
This is a walking tour of Tubac by a local which is located in Arizona’s Santa Cruz County. Tubac originally emerged as a village of the Tohono O’Odham and is the site of the oldest European settlement in what is now the state of Arizona, founded in 1752.
Simple Pleasures
Keeling Desert Park keeps things refreshingly simple with two picnic tables where you can enjoy a casual outdoor meal. Regardless of whether you're looking for a peaceful lunch spot or somewhere to gather with a few friends, this enclosed space offers a moment of escape from city life.
You'll also find two park benches perfectly positioned for sitting back and soaking in the desert atmosphere.
Good to Know
Note that the park doesn't have restrooms or drinking fountains, so plan accordingly. Like most desert landscape parks in the region, shade is also limited - something to keep in mind during those famous Tucson summer days.
Keeling Desert Park is a community space where locals can relax, stretch their legs, and enjoy the combination of desert plants and public art that gives this little park its Tucson character.
