About the Location
Neighborhood Gathering Spot
Found in Tucson's Ward 5, Mirasol Park stretches across 5.3 acres along E. Silverlake Road, offering locals a place to catch their breath from city life. This modest green space provides a recreational area for the surrounding community.
The park has a peaceful vibe that many appreciate, however you'll hear mixed reviews about its upkeep depending on who you ask in the neighborhood.
What You'll Find
Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the baseball field and basketball court where you might spot local teams running drills or friendly pickup games. Good news if you're planning an evening visit - these courts come with lighting so the fun doesn't have to end when the sun goes down.
Fancy a picnic? The small picnic area offers tables and benches for family gatherings or lunch breaks. Just keep in mind that once darkness falls, lighting becomes sparse in this section.
The playground is fairly simple, featuring swings but not much else these days. Several structures have been removed over the years, making it better suited for kids who don't need elaborate equipment to have a good time.
A grassy open area provides plenty of space to toss a frisbee, practice yoga, or simply sprawl out with a good book on a sunny afternoon.
Getting a Facelift
Exciting changes are happening at Mirasol Park through the Tucson Delivers program. The park is currently undergoing a significant makeover scheduled in two phases between 2023 and 2025.
The improvements include renovations to the sports courts, playground, parking lot, and utilities. Perhaps most notably, a new restroom facility is being added - something regular parkgoers have been requesting for quite some time.
The city is investing $492,169 in these upgrades to improve this community space.
A Park with History
Mirasol Park's story is woven into the fabric of the South Park Neighborhood's development. The area has weathered its share of challenges in the past, including issues with crime and drug activity.
Over time, determined community members and government programs have worked together to transform this space into a safer environment for everyone. The current renovations represent another chapter in the ongoing effort to nurture this neighborhood resource into something the community can truly be proud of.
