About the Location
Natural Features
Nestled across 29.3 acres, Conner Park offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of Little Rock. This woodland area sits within a hardwood forest that provides welcome shade during those scorching Arkansas summers.
At the heart of the park lies a fishing pond stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. It's quite the gathering spot for both people and wildlife! If you're patient, you'll spot bluegill and other fish species swimming beneath the surface, while curious turtles sun themselves along the water's edge, occasionally plopping into the pond when visitors get too close.
Trails and Hiking
The park has multiple trail options that meander through the woods, good for a quick nature fix or a more substantial hike. Starting on Eagle Trail, you can choose your own adventure - opt for the shorter Dr. Tom's Trail if you're pressed for time, or commit to the longer Twin Rivers Trail for a more immersive experience.
Feeling particularly adventurous? The Twin Rivers Trail extends all the way to Two Rivers Park and the Arkansas River - quite the journey! The paths feature some moderately challenging hills (nothing too daunting) and several wooden bridges that cross over seasonal streams.
As you climb higher, the trails lead to a ridgeline where a powerline cuts through, offering a different perspective of the surrounding landscape. Throughout the seasons, you'll see different native plants - from spring wildflowers to autumn's colorful leaf display.
Recreational Opportunities
The fishing dock draws local anglers hoping to catch bluegill and other fish. Even if fishing isn't your thing, it's a lovely spot to sit and watch the water ripple or observe the occasional turtle surfacing for air.
Scattered around the grounds, you'll discover benches surrounding the pond and picnic tables tucked among the trees. These make perfect spots to enjoy a packed lunch, read a book, or simply sit and breathe in the forest air - a real luxury so close to the city.
Visitor Information
Conner Park sits just off Highway 10 (Cantrell Road), but you might need to keep your eyes peeled for the entrance - it's not the most obvious turnoff. One thing to note: the parking area has only 8 spaces, which keeps the park from getting overcrowded but might mean circling back if you visit during peak times.
You should know there are no restroom facilities or drinking fountains available, so plan accordingly and bring water, especially during summer months. The park is dog-friendly, but your four-legged friends need to stay leashed while exploring the trails.
Being a natural area, you might encounter some bugs during warmer months - a bit of insect repellent goes a long way. Also, keep your eyes open for wildlife, including the occasional snake sunning itself on the trail (they're usually more scared of you than you are of them).
Visitor Experience
Whether you have 20 minutes or a couple of hours, Conner Park adapts to your schedule. Many locals swing by for a peaceful lunch break or a quick nature reset between meetings.
What makes this park special is the surprising contrast it offers - one moment you're driving along one of Arkansas' busiest roadways, and the next, you're immersed in a woodland sanctuary where the sounds of traffic fade into birdsong and rustling leaves.
