About Meriwether Park

A Glimpse into the Past

Tucked away in western Little Rock, the 10-acre Meriwether Park has been a neighborhood retreat since 1973-1974, but the land was acquired back in 1967. What locals once knew as "Hall Cove Park" eventually took on the name of former Little Rock City Manager, John T. Meriwether - a fitting tribute embedded in this residential pocket of the city.

This charming neighborhood park has watched generations of Little Rock residents grow up, preserving its essential character while remaining a community gathering space. There's something wonderfully timeless about places like this, isn't there?

Get Your Game On

If you've caught pickleball fever (and who hasn't these days?), you're in luck. The park features two outdoor pickleball courts converted from tennis courts. They come complete with lighting for those evening matches when the Arkansas heat finally gives you a break.

Sports options don't end there - a baseball field awaits future MVPs, and there's still a tennis court for the traditionalists among us. For those who prefer a more casual activity, the paved trails meander around the grounds, meant for clearing your head with a morning stroll.

Kid-Approved Fun

Meriwether Park offers plenty of family entertainment options. Two playground areas offer the classics - slides and swings - alongside a good old-fashioned merry-go-round that might bring back memories for parents and grandparents.

The star attraction? A retro rocket ship structure that's become so iconic some locals simply call this "Rocket Park." This blast-from-the-past playground centerpiece has sparked countless imaginary space missions over the decades.

A Natural Retreat

Despite being surrounded by suburbia, Meriwether Park offers a surprising touch of nature. A small creek cuts through the property, with charming bridges connecting different park entrances. It's a nice touch of nature within Arkansas' capital city.

The walking path, with its 30-40% shade coverage, makes for comfortable morning walks or quiet moments of reflection. The balance of open sky and dappled shade creates a pleasant environment for walking.

The Little Things

The park includes several practical amenities that enhance the visitor experience. Picnic areas with concrete tables and benches are scattered throughout, meant for impromptu lunches or planned gatherings. There's an outdoor grill when you're feeling ambitious, and yes, restroom facilities for when nature calls.

One of the park's greatest assets might be what it doesn't have - crowds. You'll typically find plenty of space to breathe here. It's also a favorite spot for dog walkers, however, do keep your four-legged friends leashed as per city rules.
