About Interstate Park

Natural Oasis in the City

Tucked away in Little Rock, Arkansas, Interstate Park spreads across 71 acres of land right beside the Fourche River Bottoms. What makes this urban park special is how Fourche Creek and Swaggerty Creek wind through the grounds, creating a little glimpse of nature amidst the city bustle. If you're into paddling, you're in luck - the park offers access to Fourche Creek, part of the Arkansas Water Trail, where you can paddle upstream and enjoy a leisurely float back down.

Play Ball and More

Since opening its doors in April 1980, Interstate Park has welcomed over a million visitors with its blend of wild spaces and well-kept sports complexes. Baseball diamonds, softball fields, kickball areas, football fields, and basketball courts - they've got it all. Whether you're joining a league game or just tossing a ball around with friends, you'll find ample space here.

Want to get out on the water? A boat ramp makes it easy to launch your canoe or kayak. And with generous open areas around the park, you'll never feel cramped when hosting a gathering or just spreading out for some sun.

Fresh Upgrades

The park got quite the facelift between 2011 and 2014, with over $500,000 poured into renovations. These improvements weren't just cosmetic - they included practical upgrades like renovated concession stands and restroom facilities, new roofs, electrical repairs, fresh picnic tables, and more.

More recently, the bumpy entrance road has been completely repaved, providing a much smoother approach to the park. Some of the ball fields have also been resurfaced, making for better play conditions all around.

Sports Central

If you're looking to join a team, Interstate Park hosts the Little Rock Parks & Recreation Adult Softball league (USSSA affiliated) with nearly 50 teams competing each year. The youth athletics division runs football, softball, and tee-ball programs here too.

Weekends at the park have their own special energy. Softball tournaments take over on Saturdays, while Sunday kickball has become something of a local phenomenon. These kickball leagues sometimes play for charity, and the atmosphere is fantastic - many groups even set up tailgating spots with food and drinks, turning game day into a proper social event.

Beyond the Bases

Interstate Park isn't just about organized sports. You might spot local police K-9 units training their dogs in the open fields. The park also partners with nearby schools, letting them use the facilities for varsity and JV softball games.

Good to Know

Overall, the park is clean and well-maintained, with decent restrooms. Picnic areas are scattered throughout, fantastic for family gatherings or a lunch break in the shade.

You can bring your dog along, but keep them leashed at all times. Note that while the park is loaded with sports facilities, it doesn't have a dedicated children's playground. And a word of caution - it's best to keep valuables out of sight in your car, as there have been occasional reports of break-ins.
