About David D. Terry Park

River's Edge Haven

Located on the banks of the Arkansas River, David D. Terry Park straddles the eastern and western edges of Little Rock, Arkansas. The park is part of the David D. Terry Lock and Dam system (Pool 6), completed back in 1971 as a piece of the larger McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation project.

Outdoor Adventures

If you're looking for some time in nature, this park offers several options. With five distinct recreational areas, you can find plenty of space to enjoy yourself. Anglers particularly appreciate access to the old river cutoffs and tailwaters of the dam, which make for some pretty great fishing spots.

During waterfowl season, the park becomes a hotspot for duck hunting as the Arkansas River floodwaters attract various species of birds to the area.

Natural Beauty

The park unfolds in a forested setting along the riverfront, with rolling cotton fields nearby creating a quintessential Arkansas landscape. Sitting at 193 feet above sea level, the park offers a genuine taste of the natural environment.

Weather-wise, you can expect mild winters, while summers bring that classic Southern heat and humidity with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s.

Wildlife Watching

Keep your eyes peeled for the local residents! Red foxes make regular appearances across the park, and you might spot deer gracefully moving through the trees or armadillos shuffling along the ground. The waterways and shorelines teem with various waterfowl species, adding to the peaceful ambiance of this riverside retreat.

Things to Do

What makes this park special is how it balances accessibility to urban amenities with genuine nature immersion. Whether you're into camping under the stars, picnicking with family, boating on the river, or simply sightseeing, there's something here for everyone, regardless of age or outdoor experience.

Amenities

You'll find modern restroom facilities across the park, with the newest addition completed in 2022. These well-maintained facilities make longer visits more comfortable, especially if you're spending the day fishing or enjoying other outdoor activities.
