Allsopp Park
About Allsopp Park
A Bit of History
Set in the Pulaski Heights neighborhood of northwestern Little Rock, Allsopp Park spans 75 acres of refreshing urban wilderness. This quiet retreat sits within a wooded ravine, striking that perfect balance between developed recreational spots and untouched natural spaces where you can escape the city buzz.
The park's story begins in 1927 when Little Rock purchased two ravines with green space in mind. Frederick Allsopp, a local nature enthusiast and community figure, was instrumental in shaping the park's early vision. He brought in landscape architect John Nolen to draft a master plan in 1931. While the full Nolen design never completely materialized, today's park still captures his core philosophy of blending recreation with natural beauty.
Two Sides, One Park
Allsopp Park naturally divides into two distinct personalities. The southern section is where you'll discover the more developed facilities and amenities, perfect if you're looking for structured recreation. Meanwhile, the northern portion remains largely wild woodland, offering a more immersive nature experience. This natural split gives you options depending on your mood - active recreation or peaceful forest wandering.
Trails and Outdoor Fun
Thread your way through the park on a network of winding trails that cut through wooded areas - a favorite for hikers, joggers, and mountain bike enthusiasts. Just keep in mind these paths are multi-use, so staying aware and courteous to fellow park-goers is key.
Neighborhood Gathering Spot
Beyond its natural appeal, Allsopp Park represents a vital community hub where Little Rock residents come together throughout the year. The pavilion has become a particularly popular spot for celebrating birthdays, hosting community meetings, or simply enjoying family picnics under shelter.
With a range of amenities for various interests and ages, Allsopp Park offers a versatile green space for the Little Rock community.
