About the Location
A Glimpse into the Past
Situated in the Park Hill district of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Idlewild Park is a charming triangular green space that's been the neighborhood's breathing room since at least 1924. Originally designed as a public playground, this park has witnessed nearly a century of community life unfolding around it.
In 2016, Idlewild earned recognition as part of the first major suburban development in North Little Rock and the second in the Greater Little Rock area - a little piece of local history right in your backyard.
Where to Find This Hidden Green
You'll discover this community treasure at the corner of Idlewild Avenue and Cedar Street, where it offers a little something for everyone.
The park's well-kept walking paths wind through lush greenery, well-suited for those mornings when you need to clear your head or get in some gentle exercise. The peaceful surroundings make it an ideal spot to spread out a blanket for impromptu picnics or gather with friends on sunny afternoons.
Get Moving
For the more actively inclined, there's a well-maintained tennis court where you can work on your serve, plus a basketball court complete with a net for pick-up games or solo practice sessions.
The playground area is a hit with families, featuring swings sized for both big kids and toddlers, a compact jungle gym, and a slide that keeps the little ones entertained. It's a place where children can play while parents chat with neighbors.
More Than a Park
Idlewild includes a community garden tended by local residents. The garden adds a nice collaborative element to the park.
You'll also find a Little Free Library here - a delightful book exchange where you can discover your next read or pass along a favorite. And yes, there are clean restrooms available - sometimes it's the practical things that make all the difference.
Gathering Place
Despite not being the biggest park around, Idlewild has become a go-to spot for community happenings and personal celebrations. The picnic area provides just enough room for birthday parties, baby showers, and casual get-togethers.
The park's intimate scale offers a peaceful atmosphere. There's also a working water fountain available for visitors.
