Ottenheimer Park
About Ottenheimer Park
A Brief Look Back
Located in the southwestern corner of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ottenheimer Park spans 11 peaceful acres adjacent to the Missouri Pacific Railroad in the Cloverdale subdivision. This neighborhood location exists thanks to Gus and Leonard Ottenheimer, who donated the land to the city in 1965 for recreational use by local residents.
The park began taking shape in 1968 when an existing log farmhouse was transformed into a community recreation center with game rooms and meeting spaces.
What You'll Find There
Ottenheimer Park offers a quiet escape from city life while remaining conveniently accessible. Sitting right where residential streets meet the woods, it creates that perfect buffer between suburban living and natural surroundings.
The park strikes a nice balance between open areas for casual hangouts and designated spaces for more active recreation. It's clean, peaceful, and makes for an ideal family day out without having to venture far from home.
One of the park's unique charms? Watching trains roll by as you relax in the grass. There's something oddly soothing about it, making this spot particularly nice for picnics, small gatherings, or simply unwinding with a good book on a pleasant afternoon.
Places to Play
Kids will appreciate the modern playground equipped with swings and climbing structures suitable for various ages. If you're feeling more athletic, the well-maintained basketball courts and tennis courts are regularly available for pickup games or practice sessions.
Natural Highlights
At the heart of the park lies a small pond encircled by a walking trail. Take a moment to pause along the path and you might spot turtles sunning themselves or fish swimming beneath the surface - small moments of wildlife observation that add to the park's charm.
Within the grounds, you'll find picnic areas with strategically placed tables, making it easy to enjoy an outdoor meal. The surrounding open grassy spaces provide plenty of room for frisbee, catch, or simply sprawling out on a blanket to enjoy the day.
The Visitor Experience
Dog owners will be happy to know that four-legged friends are welcome at Ottenheimer Park. The trail around the pond offers a nice route for a leisurely stroll with your pet or for getting in some light exercise.
If fishing is your thing, bring your gear - the pond attracts anglers of all skill levels looking for a convenient urban fishing spot. Whether you come for active recreation or quiet contemplation, Ottenheimer Park offers a versatile experience that Little Rock residents have enjoyed for generations.
