About the Location
Trail System
Anaheim Coves Park features a 2.5-mile multi-use trail that's great for walking, jogging, or cycling. The paved path is super accessible, making it a great option whether you're pushing a stroller or just looking for an easy-going route.
What makes this trail particularly appealing is how flat and well-maintained it is. There are hardly any hills to climb, so it's ideal if you're in the mood for a casual stroll or a quick workout without the intensity. Just a heads-up for cyclists though - take it slow around those curves where you can't see too far ahead.
Natural Environment
This 26-acre glimpse of nature sits along the Santa Ana River between Frontera Street and Ball Road in Anaheim. One of the coolest things about this park is that all the plants you'll see are native to the Santa Ana River Watershed, which has really helped expand natural habitat in the area.
As you make your way through, you'll spot informative signs that tell you all about the local ecosystem and plant species. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife too - the park is home to various birds, ducks, geese, squirrels, and lizards. You might even catch a glimpse of a coyote if you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel about them).
Amenities and Facilities
You can find all the basics covered at Anaheim Coves. There are two main staging areas - one at Lincoln Avenue and another at Ball Road - both equipped with parking lots, restrooms, and drinking fountains. Just note that if you're planning an evening visit, the Ball Road restrooms might be locked after sunset.
If you're bringing your horse along (yes, really!), the Lincoln Avenue entrance has a hitching post and water trough. Dog owners will feel right at home too, with pet drinking fountains and waste stations conveniently placed along the trail so your four-legged friend can stay hydrated and you can keep things clean.
Access Points
Beyond the main entrances at Lincoln Avenue and Ball Road, there's a handy mid-point access via South Rio Vista Street with plenty of parking. This setup lets you customize your trail experience based on how much time or energy you have.
Feel like going further? The trail connects to the Santa Ana River bike path, potentially turning your outing into a more substantial 5-6 mile adventure if you're up for it.
Recreational Features
Need to mix up your cardio with some strength training? There are fitness zones with outdoor exercise equipment scattered along the way.
For the little ones, there's a fun nature play area called Explorer's Cove complete with an archaeological dig site and a zipline. The whole trail system is kid-friendly, so bringing the family along is definitely an option.
Visitor Experience
As you walk, jog, or ride, you'll enjoy pretty views of the adjacent reservoir, however you can't actually access the water directly. The scenery is particularly lovely during overcast days, which is fortunate since shade is somewhat limited along the route.
A couple of practical tips: mosquitoes can be pesky near the water, especially as the sun goes down, so bug spray might be a good idea. And on hot days, don't forget to bring water with you - staying hydrated is key to enjoying your time here.
Park History
This peaceful green space came to life through teamwork between the Orange County Water District, Orange County Flood Control District, and Southern California Edison.
Since opening in 2011, Anaheim Coves provides a pocket of nature within the urban landscape, where people can enjoy the outdoors without venturing far from the city.
