About Terrace View Park
A Tucked-Away Park in the Berkeley Hills
Nestled between Fairlawn and Queens Way in the Berkeley hills, Terrace View Park might be small at just 0.71 acres, but don't let its size fool you. This multi-level neighborhood park packs in plenty of fun for everyone, whether you're shooting hoops or watching little ones explore.
The park has been a community fixture since 1950-1951 when Berkeley acquired the land, with an official dedication on October 30, 1951. They later expanded the playground area with an additional parcel in 1956.
Three Levels of Fun
What makes Terrace View unique is its terraced design that creates distinct spaces for different activities.
At the Queens Way entrance, you'll come across two basketball courts where local players often gather for pickup games. Head up to the mid-level and you'll discover a relaxed picnic area, an open lawn great for lounging, and a play zone for older kids featuring swings and three turning bars.
The upper level (accessible from Fairlawn) is home to a charming Tot Lot that got a nice upgrade in 1995 when the Friends of Terrace View Park secured a City mini-grant. The play structure here is meant for younger children, featuring a small slide, sandbox, three tot swings, and two concrete tunnels that little explorers love.
A Touch of Nature
One of the park's best features is how it blends urban recreation with natural beauty. The hillside setting creates a peaceful atmosphere where you might spot local wildlife like squirrels and deer going about their day. Towering redwood trees provide welcome shade on sunny afternoons, creating cool spots to relax after active play.
What to Know Before You Go
Bring your four-legged friend along if you'd like - the park is dog-friendly. You can find a water fountain to stay hydrated during your visit, and there's a nicely shaded picnic bench that's excellent for afternoon snacks or lunch breaks.
Just a heads-up about parking: it's quite limited with only a few spots available on Queens Road. These tend to fill up quickly on weekends, so consider walking if you live nearby.
