About the Location
Historic Origins
Todos Santos Plaza is a 2.5-acre public park located in the heart of downtown Concord, California. The plaza was dedicated in 1869 by the city's founders Don Salvio Pacheco, Don Fernando Pacheco, and Don Francisco Galindo as the central public square of the newly established town.
Location and Features
Situated between Salvio Street, Willow Pass Road, Grant Street and Mount Diablo Street, Todos Santos Plaza serves as a focal point and gathering place for the Concord community. The park features a grassy lawn area shaded by mature trees, providing a peaceful urban oasis.
Community Events
Todos Santos Plaza regularly hosts community events throughout the year, including a weekly farmers' market, summer concerts, and holiday celebrations. On Thursdays from June to September, the plaza comes alive with the Music & Market series, combining live music performances with a farmers' market.
Recognition and Heritage
In 2018, Todos Santos Plaza was recognized as one of three Great Places in California by the American Planning Association, highlighting its importance to the local community. During Concord's 150th anniversary celebrations, a bronze statue of Don Salvio Pacheco was installed in the plaza, further connecting the space to Concord's history.
The park underwent renovations in 1993-1994, marking its seventh major renovation since its establishment. Today, Todos Santos Plaza continues to fulfill its original purpose as a central public space for Concord residents and visitors to gather, relax, and participate in community events.
