Willow Pass Community Park
About Willow Pass Community Park
Sports and Recreation
Positioned in Concord, California, Willow Pass Community Park sprawls across 40 acres north of Willow Pass Road at Olivera Road and Salvio Street. This expansive park functions as the city's main sports complex, offering a variety of outdoor activities.
The park has five softball fields where tournaments and league games take place throughout the year. Tennis players can take advantage of four lighted tennis courts, while pickleball players can enjoy fourteen lighted pickleball courts - which are well-regarded in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just a heads-up: these courts can get pretty packed during peak hours, and you might notice the pickleball courts have a slight downward slope toward the fence.
If you're looking to perfect your swing, the batting cage concession operates year-round for baseball and softball practice. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, walking trails circle the grounds - meant for a quick 15-minute stroll or a relaxed family walk.
Facilities and Amenities
At the heart of the park stands a spacious community center used for local gatherings. Scattered throughout are pleasant picnic areas and an outdoor amphitheater where you can relax or enjoy community events.
The practical stuff? Well taken care of. There's plenty of parking, clean restrooms that are regularly maintained, and water fountains near the courts, including a convenient bottle-filling station. The grounds are well-kept and safe for visitors of all ages.
A noteworthy addition came in November 2023 - a new outdoor fitness area, the first of its kind in Concord. This 2,000-square-foot space features various KOMPAN brand equipment, including magnetic "bells" for weightlifting, stationary bikes with touch screens, suspension trainers, a multi-purpose net, and step/jump box platforms.
Each piece of equipment has a QR code linking to instructions, making it friendly for fitness buffs and newcomers alike.
Natural Features
One of the park's true highlights is a scenic pond that attracts local wildlife. Take a moment to watch egrets, ducks, geese, and turtles sunning themselves along the banks. The pond area offers a tranquil setting with nearby picnic spots - an ideal place to unwind and connect with nature.
Throughout the park, thoughtful landscaping and beautiful flora complement the open grassy areas, creating a pleasant backdrop for your visit.
Family Attractions
If you've got little ones in tow, don't miss Pixieland, a charming amusement area at the north end of the park. It features child-sized rides including a scale model train that circles the lake and travels through a tunnel. Many locals hold fond memories of visiting since their own childhood - it's a bit of a Concord tradition for young families.
The expansive grassy areas provide plenty of space for kids to play with balls and run around safely. On weekends, you'll often spot impromptu flag football games taking place.
Getting around the park became easier in late 2023 with the completion of a new crosswalk on Salvio Street, enhancing safety and accessibility by connecting the north and south sides of the park.
