Murdy Park
About Murdy Park
A Bit of History
Located in Huntington Beach, Murdy Park covers 16.04 acres of green space with recreational options for visitors of all ages. The park opened its gates back in August 1971, with Richard Bigler and Associates behind its design. On September 15 of that same year, it was officially dedicated to the community, making it a popular local landmark for over five decades now.
The Heart of the Park: Community Center
At the core of Murdy Park is the Murdy Community Center, which hosts various recreation programs and special events throughout the year. Need space for a gathering? The center offers four meeting rooms, a kitchen, and a studio that you can rent for your events.
Inside, you'll come across clean restroom facilities and a range of programs, including children's gymnastics classes. It complements the park's outdoor recreational spaces.
Get Your Game On
Sports enthusiasts will feel right at home here. The park features four lighted tennis courts (reservable via QR code, website, or phone), two lighted softball fields, and four lighted basketball courts. If you're looking to improve your tennis skills, children's lessons typically run during summer months from June to August.
For something a bit different, check out the four synthetic bocce courts surrounded by grass and shady trees - a peaceful spot for a leisurely game. Skaters won't want to miss the skate park, which holds a cool distinction as Orange County's very first skating facility. Many skaters appreciate its vintage charm and unique character that newer parks just can't replicate.
Kid-Friendly Zones
Families with little ones have plenty of options with two separate playground areas designed for different age groups. The play spaces include a jungle gym and various equipment like baby bucket swings, regular kid swings, monkey bars, and a fireman's pole. The sand-based surface provides a safer landing for active children.
Beyond the dedicated playgrounds, the park's open grassy areas give kids plenty of room to run around and burn off energy - a fantastic natural playground for imaginative games.
Everything Else You Need
For picnics, the park provides four cooking grills (bring your own charcoal) and four sinks with running water. Restrooms are conveniently located nearby, and you can find free parking in the paved lot adjacent to the facility.
The park is pet-friendly, allowing dogs to accompany their owners. The expansive grassy areas throughout the grounds provide ample space for various activities.
Note that Murdy Park observes a curfew from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, ensuring the surrounding neighborhood enjoys peaceful nights.
