Livingston Drive Park

A Neighborhood Treasure

Livingston Drive Park is a small but cherished green space located in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, California. The park spans approximately 1.5 acres along Livingston Drive, between Park Avenue and Argonne Avenue.

Historical Background

Originally part of a Pacific Electric Railway right-of-way, the area was acquired by the city in 1963 and initially reserved for potential street widening. However, after those plans were abandoned in 1970, local residents took initiative to transform the space.

In 1990, a group of neighbors organized and raised funds to match the city's contribution for the construction of a playground designed for pre-school aged children (3-5 years old).

Community-Driven Improvements

In 2007, the community once again came together through the Tot Lot Committee (TLC) to fundraise for improvements. This effort resulted in the replacement of the playground equipment, which was then the oldest in the city, and an expansion of the play area.

The renovated playground now includes sections for toddlers (2-3 years old) and school-aged children (5-12 years old), completed in January 2009.

Recreation Features

Livingston Drive Park serves as a popular gathering spot for families in the area. The playground equipment is situated on a sand surface, providing a safe play environment for children.

The park is well-utilized by the neighborhood, offering a convenient outdoor space just a block away from the bustling Second Street.
