About Los Altos Plaza Park

Park Overview

Found in Long Beach, California, Los Altos Plaza Park is a charming little green oasis in the Los Altos neighborhood. At just 0.71 acres, it's definitely on the cozy side, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in being a well-kept, peaceful spot for locals to enjoy.

Amenities and Features

The park strikes a nice balance between active and passive recreation areas. There's plenty of open lawn space where you can spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or simply soak up some sunshine.

Scattered throughout are trees and benches creating natural shade spots - fantastic for when you need a break from the California sun or just want to sit with a good book. The layout makes it an inviting spot for impromptu community gatherings or some quiet me-time.

Back in 1995, they added security lighting to make evening visits feel safer - a thoughtful touch for those sunset strolls.

One of the park's highlights came in 1998 with the addition of a playground. Funded by the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Acts, it's not the biggest playground you'll ever see, but it provides a dedicated space where kids can climb, slide, and burn off some energy.

Recreational Offerings

Around 2000, the park got another upgrade when the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department added a T-ball baseball field. This was a great addition for neighborhood kids and families, offering a proper space for little league practices and casual games.

Facilities

Note that there are no public restrooms available at Los Altos Plaza Park. You might want to plan accordingly if you're bringing little ones or planning to stay for several hours.

Historical Background

The park has deeper roots than you might expect, dating all the way back to 1951 when the Home Investment Company and the Bixby Land Company jointly deeded it to the City of Long Beach.

The official development plan got the green light from the City Council on December 21, 1954, marking the beginning of its transformation into the community space it is today.
