About Lily Park
A Peaceful Neighborhood Retreat
Tucked away in east Long Beach's El Dorado Estates neighborhood, Lily Park might be small at just 0.3 acres, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in tranquility. This little green space provides a quiet spot away from everyday life. If you're looking for a quiet spot to unwind, you'll appreciate how this park manages to be spacious, clean, and wonderfully uncrowded most days.
A Community Labor of Love
Lily Park has quite the heartwarming backstory. It started out in the early 1960s as a simple greenbelt, dedicated to Long Beach during the development of the El Dorado Park Estates. But the real magic happened in 1988, when local residents rolled up their sleeves and partnered with Partners of Parks, a non-profit organization, to raise funds for improvements.
These funds were matched through the Department's Matching Funds Capital Improvement program, adding play equipment and benches to the space. The park got another boost in 1991 with the addition of a playground, again made possible through matching funds and a Partners of Parks grant.
Making the Park Welcoming for Everyone
In 2005, Lily Park took an important step forward. Using Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and following the Americans with Disabilities Act plan, the playground equipment was replaced to make sure everyone, regardless of ability, could enjoy this neighborhood treasure.
What You'll Find
The playground is a highlight for families, particularly if you have children over 3 years old. Various play structures offer plenty of opportunities for little ones to climb, slide, and let their imaginations run wild. Beyond the playground, there's a well-kept grassy area that's meant for throwing a frisbee, having a picnic, or simply lounging with a good book.
Note that there are no public restrooms available at the park, so plan accordingly. Also, the sidewalks around the perimeter occasionally have sand on them, so if you're cycling by, take it a bit slower to avoid any slippery surprises.
Lily Park sits on Lilly Avenue and makes for a nice stop if you're in the El Dorado Estates area.
