Park Renovation
85th Avenue Mini Park is one of nine recently renovated parks in historically underserved neighborhoods of Oakland. The improvements were part of a $5 million citywide beautification project completed in February 2025.
The renovation included a resurfaced play area, making it safer and more inviting for children. New park furniture was also added to provide comfortable seating for visitors.
Amenities
The park features a barbecue pit, allowing families and community members to gather for outdoor cooking and socializing. A new drinking fountain was installed to promote health and reduce waste by discouraging the use of disposable plastic bottles.
The greenery has been enhanced with new landscaping and an upgraded irrigation system, contributing to a more pleasant and sustainable environment.
Safety Features
Safety improvements were a key focus of the renovation. New lighting was added to increase visibility and security during evening hours.
The park is now enclosed by improved fencing and gates, further enhancing safety for visitors. To address litter concerns, animal-proof trash receptacles were installed, which should help maintain cleanliness and deter illegal dumping in the area.
