Just keep in mind that the park is sandwiched between two busy roads, with traffic particularly close on one side, so keeping an eye on the kids is essential.

If you're a dog parent, you'll be in good company here. The park has become something of a canine social club, with most furry visitors politely leashed as they sniff around the grounds. The seamless connection to Lake Merritt's walking paths makes this an ideal starting point for a longer stroll with your pup.

What sets Eastshore apart is that it's home to the Lakeview Branch of the Oakland Public Library - literally bringing together the joys of outdoor recreation and literary exploration in one location. When nature calls (the other kind), you can find public restrooms next to the library, however they're not always in pristine condition.

Cross over to the Lake Merritt area on weekends and you can find yourself in the middle of an impromptu cultural festival. Capoeira performers display their athletic art, food vendors serve up international flavors, and music fills the air. It's an excellent complement to the park's more laid-back vibe - serenity when you want it, excitement when you need it.
