About the Location
A Piece of Oakland History
Positioned in West Oakland, Ernie Raimondi Park is both green space and a living piece of local history with deep roots in the community. Dating back to 1910 when it was known as Bayview Park, this spot was renamed in 1947 to honor Ernie Raimondi, an Oakland native and minor league baseball player who gave his life during World War II.
Spanning several acres, the park's crown jewel is its recently renovated baseball field. In a cool turn of events, 2024 saw the Oakland Ballers (an independent Pioneer Baseball League team) choose Raimondi as their home turf, breathing fresh energy into this historic space.
Baseball in the Blood
If these grounds could talk, they'd tell stories of greatness in the making. Raimondi Park has been the training ground for some serious baseball talent - MLB legends like Vada Pinson, Frank Robinson, and Kurt Flood all developed their skills here while attending nearby McClymonds High School.
A striking mural pays tribute to these players alongside Ernie Raimondi himself, celebrating Oakland's rich contribution to America's pastime. Thanks to a recent $1.6 million investment, the park has transformed into what many now consider a beautiful, quality baseball venue worth visiting.
More Than Baseball
While baseball might be its claim to fame, Raimondi Park is an important gathering place for West Oakland residents. The soccer fields provide accessible public space for the neighborhood.
Weekends bring the park to life, with scheduled games and casual recreation filling the grounds. Recent renovations haven't just improved the baseball diamond - they've enhanced the overall experience for everyone who stops by.
Recreation for All
The park offers plenty beyond baseball diamonds. You'll discover soccer fields in good condition that often host impromptu games and practice sessions among locals.
Families appreciate the playground area for children, and there's ample parking available if you're driving in. Need a pit stop? Restroom facilities are conveniently located on-site.
Neighborhood Pride
The park has strong ties to the neighborhood. The Friends of Raimondi Park regularly organize clean-up events and beautification projects, having removed thousands of gallons of trash over the years.
Situated in West Oakland's Prescott neighborhood, Raimondi Park is surrounded by local businesses, eateries, and other points of interest in the neighborhood.
What to Expect
Catching an Oakland Ballers game is a popular activity - these events have brought new visitors to the park. The renovated facilities offer comfortable seating for spectators who come to cheer on the home team.
The park is open 24 hours, however it really comes alive during game days and weekend mornings. While the community continues working on overall cleanliness within the grounds, you'll discover the athletic fields themselves are kept in excellent shape.
