What's Changed

The park once featured a fishing pier extending into the estuary where locals could cast a line for various fish species.

As of 2018, though, the pier has been closed for safety reasons and isn't accessible anymore. That said, you can still enjoy some fishing from other areas of the park that offer water access.

Keep in mind that this isn't exactly a wilderness retreat - its location near the busy Fruitvale Bridge and across from the former Owens-Illinois Glass Factory means you'll still hear the pulse of the city.
