About the Location
Recreation for Everyone
Patterson Park spans 4.3 acres in Riverside, California, offering a pleasant neighborhood green space where locals of all ages can spend time outdoors.
The wood chip playground features various play structures and swings that cater to different age groups. We'll be honest - some of the equipment is showing its age, but kids don't seem to mind and still find plenty of ways to slide, climb, and have a good time.
Sports Facilities
Baseball fans will appreciate the baseball field that works well for both baseball and softball games. At 200 feet from home base to the outfield fence, it's perfectly sized for younger players just getting into the sport.
Evening games are no problem thanks to the stadium lights illuminating the field after sunset. There are 10 rows of bleachers on each side for watching the action, but you might want to bring a hat on sunny days since shade is limited.
Near the parking area, you'll discover a half-court basketball space complete with all the proper markings - three-point line, free throw, and mid-court. The court includes benches and lighting, so you can shoot some hoops even after dark.
Amenities and Features
The park covers the basics with restrooms and several picnic areas where you can relax with friends and family. There's also a grilling area if you're in the mood for some outdoor cooking.
Many locals use the open field for running or casual play. Since the park stays open 24 hours, you can enjoy an early morning jog or evening stroll whenever suits your schedule.
Parking is adequate, though there aren't marked parking spaces. One heads-up: some visitors have mentioned that the water fountains don't always work, so you might want to bring your own water bottle.
Coming Soon
Exciting changes are on the horizon for Patterson Park, thanks to a substantial $7,150,000 state grant awarded in 2021. The planned renovations will add a jogging/walking loop, two soccer fields, a full basketball court, and six fitness stations around the park.
The upgrades will also include a splash pad, a community plaza, new restrooms with storage facilities, two playgrounds with shade structures, public art, and enhanced landscaping. These improvements should address the aging infrastructure and enhance the park's overall facilities.
