About the Location

Historic Origins

Fremont Park is a vibrant urban park located in the heart of Sacramento, California. This 2.35-acre green space serves as a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

The park is one of Sacramento's original one-block plazas, donated to the city by John Sutter, Jr. in 1848.

Landscape & Design

The park features a mix of open grassy areas and mature trees, including a row of palms lining its southern perimeter. Its landscape is characterized by axial pathways that intersect at a central fountain, creating an inviting layout for visitors to explore.

The park's greenery and trees provide a tranquil environment in the midst of the urban setting, offering shade and a pleasant atmosphere for various activities.

Renovations & Improvements

In 1999, Fremont Park underwent significant renovations as part of a phased improvement project. The first phase included the addition of a new adventure playground, a central seating area, individual picnic tables, a drinking fountain, walkways, and the renovation of the park's restroom.

In 2000, fourteen historic-looking lights were added to enhance the park's ambiance and safety. The second phase, completed in 2001, further improved the park with additional walkways, benches, and an accessible small group picnic area.

Community Events

Today, Fremont Park serves as a community hub, hosting various events throughout the year. One of the most popular is the monthly Fremont Park Farmers Market, which runs from May to November.

This event brings together local vendors, fresh produce, and live music, creating a lively atmosphere for community engagement.

Location & Accessibility

The park's central location in Midtown Sacramento makes it easily accessible and a favorite spot for nearby residents and workers to relax, have picnics, or enjoy outdoor activities.

Its proximity to local businesses and residential areas contributes to its role as an important public space in the neighborhood.
