About the Location

History and Namesake

Named after Mary Sanchez Gomez, a Santa Clara native and dedicated educator, the park was dedicated on March 29, 1958, in recognition of her efforts to establish the city's Parks and Recreation Department.

Mary Gomez helped formulate a policy to establish parks in every neighborhood of Santa Clara during her tenure on the city's first Parks and Recreation Commission from 1950 to 1957. Today, the park stands as a testament to her vision and continues to serve as a valuable community resource.
