History and Location

Tucked away in Valencia, Santa Clarita, Old Orchard Park spans a cozy 5.4 acres of neighborhood greenspace. Dating back to 1968 when it was developed as part of the Valencia master plan, this park is one of the city's most established outdoor spaces. For decades, it's been the backdrop for countless family picnics, student hangouts, and neighborhood gatherings.

The park is situated among winding paseos and residential streets, right next to Old Orchard Elementary School. It connects the neighborhood walkways, the school grounds, and the Lyons Avenue Corridor. If you're up for a leisurely stroll, you can access Santa Clarita's Paseo walking trails directly from the park, offering scenic routes through the community.

2024 Renovation Project

Changes are underway at Old Orchard Park. In 2024, Santa Clarita kicked off a major renovation project that's breathing new life into this beloved space. By summer 2025, you'll come across all sorts of upgrades: modern playground equipment complete with much-needed shade structures, a fully ADA-compliant restroom building, a pickleball court overlaid on the existing basketball court, and a brand-new multisport court.

The redesign maintains the area's aesthetic with a rustic yet civic character. Natural elements feature prominently - from mounded drainage areas and majestic Sycamore trees to low slump stone walls, decorative boulders, and native plantings. The ground surfaces will include decomposed granite and engineered wood chips, blending functionality with natural charm.

Recreational Areas

The park is divided into four distinct zones for different uses. There's a social and cultural hub near the restroom/community building where people of all ages (especially seniors) gather. A dedicated playground offers equipment for both younger and older children. Nature lovers will appreciate the adventure-in-nature area that encompasses the picnic spaces. Finally, an unstructured turf play area flows seamlessly into the school's own grassy field.

Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the softball/baseball field where local teams often practice and families play casual games. The basketball court hosts everything from serious pickup games to kids learning their first dribbles. And there's plenty of open green space for whatever moves you - be it jogging, yoga, or simply lounging with a good book under the canopy of trees.

Planning a gathering? The park offers several picnic benches and barbecue grills scattered throughout, great for anything from birthday celebrations to weekend cookouts. Clean restroom facilities are available when nature calls.
