About the Location

Park Overview

Set in the southern part of Newbury Park, Lynn Oaks Park is a peaceful 8.8-acre community space within Thousand Oaks. Though only 4 acres are developed for public use, this modest park packs in plenty of natural beauty. Since its development in 1983 (after being acquired in 1971), it's been quietly serving the community with its tranquil atmosphere and canopy of mature oak trees.

What makes this neighborhood park special? For one, the stunning mountain views that frame the landscape. It's a bit of a local secret, and if you time your visit right during winter months, you might catch the magical sight of snow-dusted hills in the distance.

Location and Layout

You'll find Lynn Oaks Park at the intersection of Capitan Street and Poplar Crest Avenue - an easy spot to reach if you're in the area. The park's clever terraced design creates natural divisions between different activity zones while adding visual interest to the landscape.

Just south of the play area stands one of the park's defining features: a collection of mighty oak trees that create a natural gateway to the connecting trails and open spaces beyond.

Amenities

Though not massive, Lynn Oaks Park offers thoughtful amenities that make for a pleasant outing. The playground area is particularly great for the little ones, with equipment that's just right for younger children.

Planning a family picnic? The designated picnic areas with grills have you covered for those weekend cookouts. There's also plenty of open space where you can take your four-legged friend for a walk (just remember to keep them leashed).

Trail Connections

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of Lynn Oaks Park is how it is a doorway to the broader natural landscape. From here, you can access the Hope Nature Preserve, Hidden Valley, and parts of the impressive Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

If you're feeling adventurous, follow the Spring Canyon Trail or tackle the Oak Creek Canyon Loop. For more serious hikers, the Los Robles Trail begins right here at Lynn Oaks and can take you all the way to Moorpark Road through a network of beautiful interconnected paths.
