Park Overview

Located in the heart of Aurora, Colorado, Canterbury Park spans 7.4 acres of community space that got a complete makeover in 2022. It cleverly doubles as both a neighborhood hangout spot and a stormwater detention basin - practical design at its finest.

The park sits in a quiet residential pocket, where you'll discover clean grounds and a peaceful atmosphere. With its open layout, there's plenty of room to spread out while still maintaining that cozy, family-friendly vibe that makes it special.

Playground Features

The playground features clubhouse-themed equipment that children seem to enjoy. The designers thoughtfully created separate structures for the little ones (ages 2-5) and the bigger kids (5-12). The recent renovations brought in rubber surfacing and turf covering, making the play areas more accessible for everyone.

The park includes a "friendship swing" - a disc-shaped feature that lets multiple children swing together at once. There's also a spinning sphere offering different riding positions for more adventurous play.

The mini play spot dedicated to little kids is convenient if you're bringing children of different ages, allowing younger and older children to play in age-appropriate areas.

Amenities and Shade

A soft-surface walking path winds through the park, great for a leisurely stroll or your daily exercise routine. When the Colorado sun gets intense, you can retreat to the large shade covers situated on the hillside or find respite under the mature trees scattered throughout.

The renovation team thoughtfully installed shade panels near the picnic areas, creating comfortable gathering spots. You'll discover approximately four picnic tables around the park, some tucked under umbrellas - though it's worth noting that not all tables offer shade, so you might want to arrive early to snag the covered ones.

In a nod to sustainability, over an acre of traditional turf has been converted to low-water native plants. There's also a generous open field that's well-suited for tossing a frisbee, kicking a soccer ball, or simply letting the kids run wild.

Recent Improvements

The park's renovation wrapped up just in time for a grand opening celebration in June 2022. Since then, it's been regularly used by Aurora residents of all ages.

It's worth noting that despite all the improvements, there are no public restrooms available - something to keep in mind if you're planning an extended visit. Also, during those hot summer days, the slides can heat up considerably in direct sunlight, so you might want to test them with your hand before letting little ones slide down.

Community Use

Canterbury Park strikes that perfect balance between playground fun and open green space. The large field area often hosts impromptu sports games, while the walking paths provide a pleasant route for neighborhood strolls.

The thoughtful layout makes this park ideal for shorter family outings. And if you forget snacks or sunscreen, don't worry - there are stores nearby where you can grab whatever you need.
