About the Location
What's Riding at the Park
At the heart of this 14.5-acre recreational area sits a 20,000-square-foot concrete skatepark that many skaters appreciate. If you're looking for a challenge, the 10-foot bowl offers good vertical options, while the street skating area has smooth surfaces with a good balance of grip - not too sticky, not too slick.
The street section is a playground of possibilities with three fun boxes in various sizes (all sporting that sweet metal coping), two metal slider bars that glide just right, and a wedged runway area complete with a hip, jibs, and mini transitioned hips. The ledges are well-maintained and properly waxed, and the rails slide very smoothly. No matter if you're working on basic tricks or something more advanced, there's a spot here with your name on it.
Who Fits In Here
If you're just starting out or sitting somewhere in the intermediate range, you'll feel right at home at Wheel Park. The varied layout offers plenty of sections that won't intimidate newcomers but still keep things interesting for those with more board time under their belts.
One of the best things about this place is the vibe. It's got that friendly, community feel that can be hard to find. You won't usually have to battle crowds for your turn, and the regulars tend to be pretty cool about sharing the space. It's actually quite heartwarming to see parents bringing their little ones here to learn in such a supportive setting.
Beyond the Skateboard
Not a skateboarder? Wheel Park also includes a BMX bike track and dirt jump area where bikers can practice tricks and jumps. Just a heads up - the dirt track might need a little love after rainy days, but it remains a solid spot for BMX enthusiasts.
The park also houses three inline hockey rinks that sometimes transform into impromptu soccer fields. These multi-purpose spaces see plenty of action from various community groups and organized sports teams.
For those who prefer their wheels tiny, there's a remote control vehicle course where RC fans regularly bring their cars, trucks, and even planes to zoom around the open spaces.
The Setup and Extras
Established back in 2001 and designed by the pros at Site Design Group, Wheel Park has evolved into a go-to destination for wheel sports of all kinds.
The amenities are basic but functional - you'll discover seasonal restrooms and a covered picnic area with a concrete floor that occasionally transforms into a venue for small art or music gatherings. There are also walking paths where you'll often spot locals taking their four-legged friends for a stroll.
This park doesn't try to wow you with fancy landscaping or elaborate facilities. Instead, it focuses on what matters most: creating functional spaces where people who love wheel sports can do their thing. The thoughtful layout allows multiple activities to happen simultaneously without everyone getting in each other's way.
You'll likely spot park rangers making their rounds, helping to keep the place clean and safe for everyone who rolls through.
