About the Location
A Forest Escape in the City
Set in Denver's Four Square Mile area, Long's Pine Grove Park spans a modest 3.7 acres and offers an unexpectedly serene retreat from urban life. The star attractions here? Magnificent pine trees planted generations ago by the Long family, creating a woodsy haven that makes you forget you're still in the city.
Mountain Vistas Worth Pausing For
One of the park's hidden treasures is its unobstructed view of the Front Range mountains. The terraced overlook has become something of a community living room at sunset, where neighbors gather to watch the sky transform into a canvas of colors behind the mountain silhouettes.
Kid-Friendly Fun Spots
The playground here isn't enormous, but it's thoughtfully designed for children between 4-12 years old. While you won't find swings, there's a variety of play structures set on rubber surfacing and a surprisingly large sand play area that keeps the little ones entertained. The turf-covered hillside has become an impromptu adventure zone where kids can roll, run, and explore.
Gathering Spaces
Planning a family get-together? The park's spacious shelter comfortably fits about 30 people with multiple picnic tables, conveniently located near the parking area. The central grassy field offers additional picnic spots for those who prefer dining under open skies. Note that you'll need to bring your own portable grill if you're planning a cookout - the park doesn't provide permanent ones.
Easy Navigation for Everyone
Accessibility was clearly a priority in the park's design. Concrete and dirt paths weave through play areas and around the grounds, with wheelchair and van accessibility throughout - including the restrooms. The landscape includes a mix of surfaces - rubber, sand, turf, and wood chips - throughout the space.
Practical Touches
Two gender-neutral, wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available year-round, making longer visits comfortable for everyone.
Cyclists will appreciate the bike repair station equipped with air pumps and basic tools, although it occasionally needs some TLC itself. The included bike stands make quick fixes much easier when you're out for a ride.
Beyond the Park Boundaries
Long's Pine Grove is a neighborhood park that's also a gateway to the larger High Line Canal Trail network. You'll often spot hikers and cyclists taking a breather here before continuing their journey along the extensive trail system.
The park includes a practical stormwater management system that distributes rainwater to irrigate plants, reduce runoff, and improve water quality.
