Rolland Moore Park

History and Significance

Established in 1983, the park spans 68 acres and offers a variety of recreational facilities and natural spaces for visitors to enjoy. The park is situated between West Prospect Road and West Drake Road, with easy access from South Shields Street.

Named after Rolland Moore, who served as the Parks Superintendent for the City of Fort Collins for 37 years, this park holds historical significance in the community. It was the site of Fort Collins' first handicap-accessible playground, demonstrating the city's commitment to inclusive recreational spaces.

Layout and Environment

The park is designed as a highly programmed space, featuring a mix of sports facilities, leisure areas, and natural elements. It is bordered by two City Natural Areas and partially by an irrigation ditch system, which contributes to the wildlife corridors in the park.

This combination of developed recreational areas and natural spaces makes Rolland Moore Park a diverse and appealing destination for various outdoor activities.

Awards and Recognition

Rolland Moore Park has received several accolades over the years, including recognition for its outstanding sports and recreation facilities. In 1984, it was awarded the Facility of Merit for Outstanding Sports/Recreation Facility from "Athletic Business" magazine.

The park's shelter design was also acknowledged with an Award of Merit from "Park Maintenance" magazine and The Park Maintenance Institute in 1985.
