Positioned on 10th Street, this petite 0.15-acre green space might not catch your eye at first glance, but Romero Park carries a rich story worth knowing. Established in 1982, it honors John and Inez Romero, whose impact on Fort Collins' Tres Colonias neighborhood runs deeper than most realize.

John's journey began in Santa Fe where he was born in 1897, before making his way to Fort Collins in 1920 to work for the Colorado & Southern Railroad. Inez, whose family had settled in town just a few years earlier in 1916, joined her life with John's when they married in 1925.

A Family That Shaped a Community

In 1927, the couple built their adobe home near where you're standing today and raised seven children within its walls. John became not simply a neighbor - he served as a notary public, helping fellow Mexican American families navigate legal paperwork and bridging language gaps as an interpreter.

What made the Romeros special wasn't just what they did professionally, but how they lived. Their dedication to community well-being and children's welfare became their hallmark. This modest park is a quiet reminder of their family values, particularly their emphasis on education and community service.
