About the Location
History and Origins
This 0.15-acre park was established in 1982 and is situated on 10th Street. The park is named in honor of John and Inez Romero, influential residents of the Tres Colonias neighborhood in Fort Collins.
John Romero, born in Santa Fe in 1897, moved to Fort Collins in 1920 to work for the Colorado & Southern Railroad. His wife Inez, whose family arrived in Fort Collins in 1916, married John in 1925.
The Romero Legacy
The couple built their adobe home near the park's current location in 1927 and raised seven children there. John became a notary public, supporting other Mexican American families with legal papers and acting as an interpreter.
The Romeros were known for their community involvement and support of children's welfare. The park serves as a peaceful memorial to the Romero family and their legacy of valuing education and service to the community.
