About the Location
Cool Forest Retreat
Situated in Clearwater's Countryside area, Forest Run Park offers a natural, shady haven that feels like a breath of fresh air. While the trees create a lovely cool atmosphere throughout most of the park, just a heads-up that the playground sits in full sun - so maybe pack that sunscreen if you're bringing little ones.
One of the nice things about this local escape is that it rarely feels crowded. It's really more of a neighborhood spot where you can actually relax without bumping elbows with half of Florida.
The Loop Trail
A paved walking path meanders around the entire park, stretching about 0.6 miles - good for when you want some exercise but aren't looking to train for a marathon. The trail takes you through woodsy sections and past a small pond, making your walk feel more like a nature escape than a workout.
The path is well-kept and includes thoughtful touches like water fountains along the way. There's even one designed with a special bowl for thirsty dogs. And if your four-legged friend needs to make a pit stop, you'll find waste stations with bags scattered throughout the trail.
Get Your Game On
If you're feeling more active, Forest Run doesn't disappoint. The tennis courts double as pickleball courts for those who've joined the latest racquet sport craze. There are also well-maintained basketball courts and racquetball/wall ball courts that some locals have creatively repurposed for lacrosse practice.
The courts come with lighting for evening games, which is handy when Florida's daytime heat gets to be too much. These facilities have been community fixtures for years, showing a bit of wear but still perfectly functional for friendly competition.
Kid Zone
The children's playground is designed for the 5-12 crowd and offers some engaging climbing challenges. In fact, some of the structures might be a bit tricky even for kids who normally scramble up everything in sight.
The play area features a rock wall and various climbing equipment that kids seem to love. Just remember that without the shade that blankets other parts of the park, those metal and plastic surfaces can heat up quickly under the Florida sun.
The Extras
You'll discover picnic tables scattered around the park - well-suited for a casual lunch or impromptu gathering. Water fountains are conveniently placed so you can stay hydrated during your visit.
Note that the park doesn't have public restrooms, so plan accordingly. On the plus side, the entire park is wheelchair accessible, making it a welcoming space for everyone.
Dog owners will appreciate that their furry friends are welcome here, with those aforementioned water stations and waste disposal spots making pet outings easier. No matter if you're looking to play a pickup game, take a peaceful stroll, or just sit under a tree with a good book, Forest Run Park offers a little green escape in the heart of Countryside.
