Tree Tops Park
About Tree Tops Park
Natural Retreat
Located in Davie, Florida, Tree Tops Park spans 243.3 acres of natural beauty. Once a dairy farm, this land was preserved by Broward County in 1980, transforming it into the public haven it is today.
Walk through the park and you can find yourself surrounded by a rich tapestry of ecosystems - oak hammocks, tropical hardwood forests, and restored freshwater marshes. There's something almost enchanting about how the towering trees create a canopy overhead, making you feel miles away from city life even though you're right in Broward County.
The Marsh Boardwalk Experience
One notable feature is the 1,000-foot boardwalk that meanders through 23 acres of restored freshwater marsh. We love stopping at the viewing platforms along the way - they're perfect spots to pause and observe the local residents: turtles sunbathing on logs, fish darting through the water, and birds going about their daily routines.
It's no surprise that Tree Tops is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. On a typical visit, you'll likely spot numerous turtles and catfish, and if you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel about them), maybe even a snake or two. Don't forget your camera if you enjoy wildlife photography.

Trails Under the Canopy
The hiking trails here wind through woodlands so dense they provide welcome shade even during Florida's most sweltering days. They're well-maintained and meant for anything from a casual stroll to a more vigorous hike.
For a different perspective, climb the 28-foot observation tower near the Live Oak Trail. From up there, you get a breathtaking view of the forest canopy stretching out before you. The magnificent Banyan tree nearby is particularly photogenic from this vantage point. We find it's worth the climb every time, especially if you want to appreciate just how extensive the tree coverage is.
Get Active Outdoors
If horseback riding is your thing, you'll appreciate the seven miles of designated horse trails that loop through the park. Water enthusiasts can head to the 15-acre waterway where you can rent pedal boats shaped like swans and ducks - a bit kitschy perhaps, but undeniably fun.
Beyond the natural attractions, Tree Tops offers plenty of recreational options. You'll discover picnic areas meant for family gatherings, playgrounds where kids can burn off energy, volleyball courts for the sportier visitors, and even an outdoor fitness area with exercise equipment thoughtfully placed under shade covers.
Gathering Spaces
The park's Oak Ridge Hall is a multipurpose venue for everything from community meetings to weddings. With its patio area, it's particularly popular for special events - though you'll want to book well in advance for weekend dates.
As a conservation area in Broward County, Tree Tops Park preserves native Florida ecosystems while offering opportunities to learn about local plants and wildlife. Note that while weekday entrance is free, there's a $3 per vehicle admission fee on weekends and holidays.
