A Bit of History

Deerwood Rotary Children's Park opened its gates to the Jacksonville community on September 28, 2001, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked its completion. The park was officially dedicated to the City of Jacksonville a few months earlier, on April 20. What makes this green space special is the collaborative spirit behind it - a true partnership between the Deerwood Rotary Club, Jacksonville city officials, and local private developers working together to create something meaningful for families.

Since its opening day, the park has become popular with Southside Jacksonville families looking for a place to play.

Created specifically to ensure equal access for children with disabilities and mobility challenges, it represents a thoughtful approach to playground design. The Deerwood Rotary Club didn't just contribute ideas - they backed their vision with partial funding, showing real dedication to making play accessible for all kids.

Keep in mind that outside the pavilion area, shade is limited, which means equipment can heat up during those sunny Florida days. The park tends to draw more crowds on weekends, and you should note that there isn't much lighting after sunset, making it primarily a daytime destination.
