About the Location
A Hidden Coastal Retreat
Tucked away at the end of West 1st Street and Begonia Street in Atlantic Beach, Tide Views Preserve is an 8-acre natural haven just west of Mayport Road. This peaceful spot offers a refreshing escape from Jacksonville's urban bustle with its remarkable views of the Intracoastal Waterway.
The preserve's 2,500 feet of trails and boardwalks meander through salt marshes and along the coastline, creating perfect pathways to connect with the local ecosystem. As you walk, keep your eyes peeled for the diverse wildlife that calls this place home - from various coastal birds to tiny crabs scuttling across the landscape.
What to Do Here
If you're into bird watching, you're in for a treat. The preserve really comes alive during fall and spring migrations, when numerous species pass through. If you're lucky, you might even spot the owls that frequently make appearances here. The preserve embraces a low-impact philosophy, letting you enjoy nature without disrupting its delicate balance.
The thoughtfully designed boardwalks protect the fragile marsh ecosystem while making your explorations comfortable. For those who enjoy fishing, there's a designated area where you can try your luck catching flounder, trout, or redfish - your chances are especially good when the tide is coming in.
Take in the Views
One of the preserve's highlights has to be its scenic overlooks offering sweeping vistas of the marsh and waterway. These spots are excellent for photography enthusiasts or anyone who appreciates a good sunset - which, by the way, can be absolutely magical here.
Want a different perspective? The park's kayak launch lets you get out on the water for an immersive experience. You have two options: a dirt launch along the trail or one at the pier's end (which works best during low tide).
Comfort and Convenience
You'll discover clean restrooms near the parking area at the trailhead, so you can comfortably plan for a longer visit. Throughout the preserve, sitting areas and benches provide perfect spots to rest, enjoy a packed lunch, or simply sit quietly absorbing the marsh atmosphere.
Dog owners will be happy to know the preserve is dog-friendly, making it ideal for walks with your four-legged companions. Unlike some of Jacksonville's more crowded outdoor spaces, this little-known gem typically offers plenty of breathing room, creating a truly peaceful natural experience.
The preserve welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 8PM, giving you plenty of time to explore this coastal sanctuary whether you prefer morning birdsong or evening serenity.
