Park History

Nestled within Lakeland's city limits, Holloway Park spans a generous 362 acres of recreational space and natural preserve. Back in 2010, Mary Ann and Ed Holloway transformed their property into a public park, creating the Holloway Park Foundation to manage this space for public use.

Unique Landscape

What makes this park stand out is its surprisingly un-Florida-like terrain. The rolling hills and valleys - remnants of phosphate mining operations that ended before 1950 - create an unexpected landscape that might have you forgetting you're in the Sunshine State. These natural contours have turned the park into something of a cross-country runner's paradise, with elevation changes that are pretty rare in this part of Florida. The sunset views from these hills are particularly impressive.

Trail System

The park features a network of well-marked trails suitable for various fitness levels. Cross-country enthusiasts can tackle courses ranging from a quick 1 kilometer jaunt to a more substantial 10 kilometer route. Don't worry about getting lost - maps are available to help you find your way.

No matter if you're looking for a challenging run or a peaceful stroll, there's something for you here. The trails wind through both shady wooded sections (a blessing during Florida summers) and open areas that showcase the park's unique topography.

Natural Environment

As you explore, you'll see Central Florida's native ecosystems throughout the park. Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife - the park is home to countless birds and insects, and if you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on your perspective), you might spot larger residents like bobcats or coyotes.

The park operates on a 'Leave No Trace' principle, so do your part to keep this natural treasure pristine. Bringing binoculars? You can find plenty of avian activity to keep your bird list growing.

Recreational Facilities

Beyond hiking and running, the park includes an 18-hole disc golf course that's popular among enthusiasts. Stretching 7,825 feet, this isn't your average beginner course - with some holes exceeding 400 feet and featuring elevated fairways, it offers a genuine challenge for disc golfers.

When you're ready to refuel, head to the small picnic area equipped with tables and even a grill (just remember to bring your own charcoal). If you're running low on water, you can find a spigot near the parking area at the end of the disc golf trail.

Pet-Friendly Environment

Good news for dog owners - your four-legged friends are welcome here! Just keep them leashed and be prepared to clean up after them. The extensive grounds provide plenty of stimulating scents and sights for your canine companion to investigate as you wander the trails together.

Restroom Facilities

You'll come across portable toilets strategically placed around the park. While not luxurious, they're generally clean and well-maintained - a practical solution for a park of this size and nature.

Hours and Admission

You can visit Holloway Park any day of the year from 7AM to 7PM. One of the best parts? It's completely free, but donations are appreciated to help maintain this beautiful space for everyone.

Events and Activities

Throughout the year, the park transforms into a hub for cross-country competitions, with schools and organizations taking advantage of the excellent courses. It's known as a notable cross-country venue in Florida.
