About the Location
Recreational Facilities
Spread across 26 acres, this park is basically a playground paradise for everyone from fitness enthusiasts to families looking for a fun day out. There's a 3/4-mile walking trail wrapping around the perimeter - great for getting your steps in while soaking up some Florida sunshine.
Sports fans will find tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, basketball courts, and even pickleball courts (yes, that sport everyone's talking about). There are also bocce ball courts, horseshoe pits, a sand volleyball court, and multi-purpose sports fields for whatever game you're into. Baseball enthusiasts will appreciate the baseball fields complete with shaded bleachers - because nobody enjoys squinting in the Florida sun while cheering on their favorite players.
Unique Playground
The playground here isn't your average swing-and-slide setup. It's themed after the historic Bulow Plantation Sugar Mill, featuring coquina rock structures where kids can climb, slide, and explore. There's a climbing wall, bridges, and ladders galore, with the zip line being particularly popular among kids (and some brave adults).
There's also a treehouse structure that brings out the adventurer in everyone, tunnels for crawling, and even musical toys for budding musicians. Perhaps the most ingenious feature is the cardboard hill - literally an astroturf hill where kids slide down using cardboard boxes. Simple? Yes. Endless fun? Absolutely.
Parents can breathe easy knowing the entire playground has soft, protective surfacing and is fully fenced, making it easier to keep track of your little explorers.
Water Features
The newest star of the park is the splash pad that opened in June 2024. At 11,000 sq. ft., this large splash pad is designed to represent local ecosystems. It features coastal and swamp environment zones with various spray features that are both fun and subtly educational.
Thoughtfully designed with separate sections for toddlers and older children (connected by a cool mist tunnel), it ensures water fun for all ages. Look out for the animal sculptures throughout - they add a nice touch of whimsy and local wildlife education.
Dog Park
Dog parents, rejoice! The 1.5-acre dog park has separate areas for your big and small fur babies, plus wash-down stations for those inevitably muddy paws. You can relax in the shaded pavilions while watching your pup make new friends, and if your dog is part fish, there's even a pond in one section for swimming.
Picnic Areas and Amenities
When hunger strikes, head to one of the covered pavilions equipped with picnic tables. They're ideal for everything from family lunches to birthday celebrations. If you're planning something special, you can reserve these through Palm Coast Parks and Recreation for a fee, or just grab one first-come, first-served if there's no reservation.
You'll come across clean restroom facilities conveniently placed across the park, including men's, women's, and family options - because nothing ruins a park day faster than a bathroom emergency with nowhere to go.
Historical Significance
Beyond all the fun and games, the park houses the Palm Coast Historical Society headquarters. This small but fascinating museum offers a window into Palm Coast's past and the significance of the Bulow Plantation Sugar Mill. It's worth popping in to understand the area's rich cultural heritage - and maybe impress your friends with some local knowledge afterward.
