About the Location
Waterfront Escape
Nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Coast, Florida, Herschel King Park spans a generous 20 acres of natural beauty. You can find this cozy location at the end of Grady Prather Jr. Cove just off Colbert Lane. The park welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 11PM, giving you plenty of time to soak in the peaceful waterfront vibes and explore everything it has to offer.
Angler's Paradise & Boater's Haven
If fishing is your thing, you'll love the spacious fishing pier that extends into the Intracoastal Waterway. It's an excellent spot to cast a line or simply lean against the railing and watch the water shimmer in the Florida sun. Boating enthusiasts aren't left out either - the park features a convenient double boat launch that's completely free to use. It tends to get busy on weekends (no surprise there!), but there's ample parking for cars with boat trailers near the launch area, making your water adventure hassle-free.
Family Fun Space
The little ones won't be bored for a second thanks to the shaded playground area that caters to kids of various ages. What's especially nice is how the playground sits under tree coverage, keeping it comfortable even during those hot Florida afternoons. Parents can relax on nearby benches while keeping an eye on the fun. Need to stretch your legs? The park's walking trail offers a peaceful path to enjoy some exercise while spotting local wildlife and taking in the natural surroundings.
Picnic Paradise
When hunger strikes, you don't need to leave the park's tranquil setting. A large covered pavilion with multiple picnic tables can be reserved for special gatherings or family celebrations. If you're just dropping by, you'll find plenty of first-come, first-served tables scattered within the grounds, particularly in the shady spots along the path to the boat launch.
Feeling like a cookout? The park's double oversized grills and barbecue stations are well-suited for preparing a delicious outdoor meal with friends and family.
Comfort & Convenience
You'll appreciate the clean restroom facilities that are well-maintained and regularly serviced. In fact, the entire park is kept in excellent condition, making every visit pleasant and comfortable. Dog parents will be happy to know the park is pet-friendly, welcoming leashed four-legged companions around the grounds - great for a scenic walk along the waterfront with your furry friend.
A Bit of History
The park honors Herschel King, who dedicated 33 years of service to the Flagler school system from 1953 to 1986. It's a fitting tribute to someone who contributed so much to the local community - a peaceful waterfront park where community members can gather and enjoy the natural beauty of Florida.
