About the Location
A Place of Remembrance
Found in Pembroke Pines, Fletcher Park stands as a living tribute to Donnith H. Fletcher, the first local resident who lost his life during the Vietnam War. This isn't just a patch of green space - it's a place where memories and recreation come together.
The heart of the park features a thoughtful memorial area with historical military exhibits. You can get up close to World War 2 artillery pieces and other military artifacts in what feels like a mini open-air museum. If you happen to visit during Memorial Day, you'll witness something special - a moving ceremony complete with wreath-laying that honors those who served. It's a gentle reminder of the park's deeper purpose amid all the fun and games.
For Sports Enthusiasts
Baseball and softball lovers will feel right at home here. The park has four well-maintained baseball/softball fields that host everything from casual weekend games to competitive tournaments. Many locals consider this one of the best softball spots in the area. Need to work on your swing? Two batting cages are ready and waiting to help you perfect your technique.
A quick heads-up: as of November 7, 2022, the basketball court here closed permanently due to the Water Plant expansion. You can still shoot some hoops at nearby Pines Recreation on 7400 Pines Boulevard.
Just a friendly note: field conditions can sometimes be affected by Florida's famous downpours, with some areas prone to flooding after heavy rain. Occasionally, you might find fields temporarily closed for maintenance - just part of keeping everything in top shape.
Family-Friendly Features
If you've got little ones in tow, the playground area offers a wonderful spot for them to burn off energy and make new friends. When it's time for a breather, head to the pavilion where you'll find welcome shade for picnics, family gatherings, or simply watching the world go by.
The park's layout works well for community events, particularly those centered around youth sports programs.
Good to Know
Planning to organize training sessions or sports lessons? You'll need to secure a permit from the City first - it's their way of ensuring everyone gets fair access to these community resources.
One small quirk worth mentioning: trash cans can be a bit sparse in certain areas, especially near the bleachers and playing fields. Despite this minor inconvenience, the park generally maintains a clean, well-kept appearance that reflects how much this space means to the community.
