Reese & Pope Park
About Reese & Pope Park
Neighborhood Green
Situated on Reese Street in Athens, Georgia, Reese & Pope Park is one of those sweet little spots that proves good things come in small packages. At just 1.5 acres, this neighborhood park might not be massive, but it is a popular green space for the local community.
Back in 2009, the park got a $200,000 makeover that really breathed new life into it. While it's compact in size, there's something charming about this little oasis that makes it great for a casual afternoon outdoors.
What You'll Find Here
The park features a lovely open grassy area where you can toss a frisbee, have a small picnic, or just stretch out with a good book.
If you've got kids in tow, the playground is a definite highlight where little ones can burn off some energy.
Basketball enthusiasts will appreciate the well-maintained court where you can often find locals engaged in friendly pick-up games.
Take a Break
Need a spot to relax or enjoy some snacks? The park's pavilion with four circular picnic tables provides nice shade. This shaded area is fantastic for taking a breather or gathering with a few friends for lunch.
What makes this park special is how seamlessly it fits into the neighborhood. It's just steps away for many residents, making it an easy choice for a quick outdoor escape.
Community Connection
One of the coolest things happening at Reese & Pope Park is the Really Really Free Market (RRFM), which takes over the space on the second Saturday of each month from noon until about 1:30 PM. It's exactly what it sounds like - a market where everything is truly free!
You can find people gathered around the pavilion area, many with blankets spread out displaying items they no longer need but that might be meant for someone else. It's a wonderful way to reduce waste while connecting with neighbors, and it's become a signature event that really brings the community together.
