About Renaissance Park
Urban Oasis
Tucked away in downtown Atlanta, Renaissance Park carves out a modest 5.4-acre breathing space in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. This little patch of green has transformed over the decades - what was once part of the Buttermilk Bottom slum (demolished back in the '60s) is now a peaceful retreat from the city's concrete landscape.
Puppy Paradise
Since 2013, the upper section of Renaissance Park has been a haven for four-legged friends. This dog park addition has provided residents from Fourth Ward West, Downtown, and Midtown neighborhoods with a needed place for their dogs to run free. And there's a nice bonus - the increased foot (and paw) traffic has helped clean up some of the loitering and panhandling issues that used to trouble the area.
What makes this spot especially practical is the two separate enclosed areas - smaller dogs get their own zone away from their larger counterparts. You'll typically find the park clean, with enough space to move around without feeling cramped - something not always easy to find in urban dog parks.
ADY'allywood 3 Hour Private Movie and TV Locations Tour
Often referred to as Y'allywood or The Hollywood Of The South, Atlanta is one of the top filming locations in the world! The state of Georgie is ranked #1 in Film Production by Business Facilities Magazine and as of 2016, more feature films are made in Georgia than any other state.
City Views and Natural Charm
One of the park's understated perks is its gorgeous downtown Atlanta skyline backdrop. The contrast between urban architecture and green space creates a uniquely Atlanta experience.
The park keeps things simple but effective with paved walking paths and plenty of grassy, tree-covered spots well-suited for spreading out a blanket and unwinding. Just note that amenities are pretty minimal here - you won't find many benches or restrooms, so plan accordingly.
A Neighborhood Evolving
Renaissance Park is part of the ongoing changes in the Old Fourth Ward area. The dog park addition has brought more activity to this space, making it feel safer and more welcoming for people passing through.
Though it's compact compared to some of Atlanta's other green spaces, the park is well-used by the community. It occasionally functions as an event space, hosting gatherings like the annual One MusicFest.
Before You Visit
If you're planning your first trip here, it's worth knowing that a good chunk of the park is dedicated to the dog areas. This makes it a fantastic destination if you're bringing a furry friend, but you might want to look elsewhere if you're hoping for playgrounds or extensive family recreation facilities.
