About Renaissance Park in Atlanta

Renaissance Park is a small urban green space located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The park sits on approximately 5.4 acres of land in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. Originally part of the Buttermilk Bottom slum area that was razed in the 1960s, the park has undergone significant changes over the years.

In 2013, the upper portion of Renaissance Park was transformed into a dog park, providing a much-needed amenity for residents of the surrounding Fourth Ward West, Downtown, and Midtown neighborhoods. This addition has helped reduce issues that previously plagued the area, such as loitering and panhandling.

The park offers visitors a picturesque view of the downtown Atlanta skyline, making it a scenic spot for relaxation and recreation. Its wooded areas provide a natural retreat within the urban environment. While relatively small compared to other city parks, Renaissance Park serves as an important green space in a densely populated area of Atlanta.

As part of ongoing revitalization efforts in the Old Fourth Ward, Renaissance Park continues to evolve to meet the needs of the local community. The addition of the dog park has increased usage and improved the overall safety and appeal of the area.
