East Lake Park
About East Lake Park
Play & Recreation Spaces
Sprawling across 10 acres, East Lake Park is a popular neighborhood green space where locals and visitors gather. This park offers a variety of outdoor options for everyone in your group.
The playground area is typically popular with kids. Little climbers can tackle multiple slides of different sizes while the two sets of swings offer endless fun - parents of toddlers will appreciate that the baby swings are thoughtfully positioned under large shade trees. The smaller kids' section features various play equipment in a nicely shaded spot, well-suited for when the Georgia sun is blazing.
The park includes several athletic facilities. The basketball court regularly hosts some seriously talented local players, while the versatile tennis courts double as pickle ball courts for those riding the latest racquet sport trend. There's also a baseball field that works perfectly for kickball games, plus plenty of open grassy fields where you can toss a frisbee or kick a soccer ball around.
Facilities & Green Spaces
Need an indoor option? The Zaban Recreation Center anchors the park and offers community programs year-round. It's also available to reserve for family gatherings and reunion-style events when you need more space than your backyard can provide.
When it's time to refuel, you'll find covered picnic tables and charming gazebos scattered across the grounds - ideal for anything from birthday celebrations to casual weekend lunches. The grilling areas mean you can cook up some burgers while the kids play nearby.
Restrooms are located inside the recreation center, but keep in mind they might not be accessible if the center is closed. As for parking, there's both a dedicated lot and street options, but you might want to arrive early on beautiful weekend days when spaces fill up quickly.
A Community Success Story
Back in 2005, East Lake Park underwent a remarkable transformation. What makes this renovation special was its grassroots nature - with funding from corporate partners and the sweat equity of more than 800 community volunteers, the playground, recreation center, ball fields, and walking trails all got much-needed upgrades.
Today, the park functions as a neighborhood gathering place where families from different backgrounds come together.
What to Expect
East Lake Park has a family-friendly atmosphere. While the maintenance generally keeps things in good shape, it can vary with the seasons.
Many locals who grew up playing here now bring their own children and grandchildren, continuing traditions that span generations. Weekends buzz with activity, and if you're around during spring, you might catch the annual Easter events that bring the community together.
Note that some areas of the park offer limited shade, so bring hats and sunscreen during hot months. The walking trails provide loops for a morning jog or an evening stroll.
