Tucked in the heart of Savannah's Historic District lies Forsyth Park, a verdant 30-acre treasure that's been part of the city's fabric since the 1840s. This green space actually predates New York's Central Park, making it one of America's oldest public parks.

The park carries whispers of Savannah's past through monuments honoring the Confederate War and Spanish-American War. If you look closely at the southern edge, you'll spot two small fort-like structures built in 1915 for the Savannah Volunteer Guards - little reminders of the city's military heritage.

That Famous Fountain (And More)

Most people come seeking that fountain. Installed in 1858 and crafted by Janes, Beebe & Co., this cast-iron beauty mirrors similar fountains in Paris and Peru. It's often photographed and has been the backdrop for many marriage proposals.

Beyond the fountain, Forsyth unfolds into wide, inviting green spaces shaded by majestic oak trees draped dramatically with Spanish moss. These natural canopies provide relief during Georgia's hot summers, creating spots to sprawl out with a book, toss a frisbee, or simply watch the world go by.
