Park Overview

Positioned in West Boise, Redwood Park is a charming 7-acre local retreat located near the intersection of Ustick Road and North Five Mile Road. The City of Boise purchased this green space from Cloverdale Nursery back in 1994, developing it into the neighborhood park it is today.

What strikes you immediately about Redwood is its lush, well-kept grass and the beautiful mature trees that cast cooling shadows throughout the grounds. There's something genuinely peaceful about this place that keeps locals coming back - a little breathing space in the midst of suburban life.

Recreation Areas

The park offers plenty of open grassy areas well-suited for throwing a frisbee, having a picnic, or just lounging with a good book. A walking path meanders through the park, ideal for those morning strolls or afternoon wanderings. It's completely paved and loops around the entire park, with trees providing welcome shade along portions of the route - a blessing during those hot Idaho summer days.

One of the real highlights here is the fishing pond, a tranquil spot where you can cast a line or simply enjoy the serenity of the water. The pond attracts ducks and geese, adding a touch of wildlife to your visit. Kids especially seem mesmerized by the waterfowl and their fluffy offspring paddling around.

As you wander the grounds, you'll notice various artwork installations that add character and visual interest to your walk.

Dog-Friendly Features

If you're a dog owner, you're in for a treat. Redwood Park has become something of a canine social club thanks to its off-leash dog area. Your four-legged friends can roam freely during specific hours: from sunrise to 10:00 a.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. until sunset.

Outside these times, you'll need to keep your pup leashed. What makes this park special is the community of responsible pet owners who've established an unspoken code - clean up after your dog and ensure they play nicely with others.

Thoughtfully, there are several dog water bowls positioned within the park, with a water source available outside the restroom for refills when your pooch gets parched.

Amenities

For the little ones, there's a playground designed for children aged 2-12. The play area sits on a wood chip surface for safety and includes four swings - two regular and two designed for toddlers - along with other typical playground equipment that keeps kids entertained.

When nature calls, you'll find restroom facilities that stay open year-round. They received an update in 2023 and are typically clean and well-maintained - always a plus for a public park.

You can find picnic tables and benches near the playground where you can enjoy a packed lunch or simply rest while supervising playtime. Just note that there isn't a covered pavilion, so you might want to bring sun protection on bright days. The parking lot runs on the small side, which might present a challenge if you're arriving in a larger vehicle.

Community Value

There's something special about Redwood that goes beyond its physical features. It's a popular neighborhood gathering spot with activities for different age groups - from kids on the playground to seniors enjoying the walking path.
