Williams Park
About Williams Park
Park Features
Situated in Southeast Boise, Williams Park covers just under 8 acres of land that local residents have come to treasure. This cozy location offers a great blend of open grassy spaces and recreational facilities, all while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere away from the city's hustle. With trees scattered throughout, you'll come across plenty of shady spots to escape Idaho's summer heat.
Sports Facilities
If you're in the mood for some activity, the park's four tennis courts are waiting for your best serve, while the basketball court invites you to practice those jump shots. Meandering walking paths crisscross the grounds, fantastic for a leisurely stroll or a brisk morning walk. Need more space? The expansive open field (roughly 100 by 200 yards) gives you plenty of room to toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, or simply spread out a blanket and cloud-watch.
Playground Areas
The little ones haven't been forgotten here. Williams Park features two age-appropriate playgrounds - one designed specifically for toddlers 2-5 years old, and another for the 5-12 year old crowd. Both play areas sit on cushiony wood chip surfaces for those inevitable tumbles, however interestingly, neither has swing sets. You'll appreciate the abundant shade covering these areas, making afternoon play sessions much more comfortable. Just keep an eye out for the two shallow ditches (about 1 foot deep) that separate the playground from the main field.
Relaxation Spaces
Not feeling particularly energetic? The park offers several spots fantastic for unwinding, including game tables where you can challenge a friend to chess or checkers. The covered gazebo area with tables provides a nice shelter for impromptu picnics or family gatherings, rain or shine. Additional tables near the tennis courts offer more seating options. And yes, there are public restrooms available - men's, women's, and accessible facilities to accommodate everyone's needs.
Dog-Friendly Area
Since July 2013, Williams Park has embraced its four-legged visitors with a popular dog off-leash program. This community-requested feature allows dogs to run free in the large field during specific morning and evening hours (times vary slightly by season). It's become something of a social hub for local dog owners, and the canine community tends to be well-mannered and friendly - as are their humans.
Parking
The one modest drawback to Williams Park is its limited parking situation. With just two small lots and only about four designated spaces, it's primarily designed to serve those living within walking distance. Consider biking or walking if you're planning a visit from further afield - it'll save you the potential parking headache while adding some extra exercise to your day.
