Natural Features
Camel's Back Park is an 11-acre urban park located in the North End neighborhood of Boise, Idaho. The park is named for the large hill at its center that resembles a camel's back. This distinctive geographical feature offers panoramic views of downtown Boise and the surrounding Boise Foothills.
History
The park was established in 1932 when Bernard Lemp donated the land to the city. It has since become a popular recreational area for Boise residents and visitors.
Trails and Outdoor Activities
The park provides access to numerous hiking and mountain biking trails that extend into the adjacent Hulls Gulch Reserve and the broader Ridge to Rivers trail system in the Boise Foothills.
At the base of the hill, Camel's Back Park features open grassy areas suitable for picnics and casual sports. The park includes a playground for children, tennis courts, and a sand volleyball court.
In 2015, an outdoor gym with various exercise equipment was installed, offering additional fitness options for park visitors.
Community Significance
Camel's Back Park serves as a gateway to nature within the city, allowing easy access to outdoor activities while remaining close to urban amenities. The park hosts various community events throughout the year, including the popular Hyde Park Street Fair held annually in September.
