Bear Creek Park
About Bear Creek Park
Park Overview
Situated in southwest Meridian, Idaho, Bear Creek Park spreads across 19 acres of community space right next to the Bear Creek subdivision. Since opening in 2002, the park has become a popular spot for locals looking to play, relax, or get some fresh air. A smooth 0.65-mile walking path wraps around the park's perimeter - ideal for your morning jog or an evening stroll to clear your head.
Sports Facilities
Got a softball team? The park houses two adult softball fields you can reserve for your games (though keep in mind they don't have lights for night games). There's also a multi-use athletic field up for grabs if softball isn't your thing. Both options are pretty affordable at $5 per half hour, maxing out at $75 for a full day.
If basketball is more your speed, you can shoot some hoops on one of the two half-court setups - no reservation needed, just show up and play. The spacious grassy areas regularly host everything from soccer matches to lacrosse games, frisbee tournaments, and other team sports.
Seasonal Attractions
What makes Bear Creek stand out is its 9-hole disc golf course that pops up during the cooler months. From October 1st through mid-March, disc golf enthusiasts can navigate the course while enjoying Idaho's crisp winter air.
When summer rolls around, you can cool off with a treat from the seasonal shaved ice stand - nothing beats that sweet relief on a hot Idaho day.
Playground Area
The recently renovated playground is a kid's dream come true. Little ones have their own smaller playhouse, while older children can conquer the impressive three-story playhouse that dominates the play area.
The playground includes a zip line and climbing structures shaped like a bear and a jeep - fitting for an Idaho park. You'll discover a variety of swings to accommodate everyone: two baby swings, a special needs swing, a co-swing for parent-child swinging, and two regular swings. Safety comes first with shredded rubber surfacing, and several benches surround the area where you can relax while keeping an eye on the kids.
Recreational Areas
Lush, thick grass covers the open play areas, inviting impromptu games of catch or peaceful afternoon picnics. Mature trees dot the landscape, offering welcome shade during those sunny summer days.
The paved walking path isn't just for walkers - you'll see joggers, families with strollers, and plenty of dog walkers making their rounds. If you bring your four-legged friend, you'll appreciate the Mutt Mitt stations that help keep the park clean and beautiful for everyone.
Picnic Facilities
Planning a gathering? The picnic shelter can accommodate up to 100 people and can be reserved for $50 plus tax per 4-hour block. Choose either a morning session (9am-2pm) or evening hours (4pm-9pm). If you're just looking for a spontaneous picnic spot, additional covered tables are scattered across the park, and any unreserved shelters are available on a first-come basis.
Amenities
You can find all the essentials for a comfortable visit: clean restrooms (open seasonally), multiple drinking fountains (including double-sided ones near the playground), and a decent-sized parking lot. Regular visitors often comment on how well-maintained the grounds are.
